Counselor's Corner
Give your child the necessary tools to manage time wisely
Helping your child learn how to manage her time is one of the best ways to help her do better in school.
Here are some tips on helping your child make time for learning:
- Follow routines. Routines make life easier for parents. Kids who know dinner is at 6:30 will be ready to come to the table. Kids who know that homework time is before TV may grumble, but they'll follow the rules. Create regular times for homework, reading and watching TV.
- Help your child plan ahead. At the end of the day, prepare for the next day. Your child can write a checklist of things to bring to school.
- Allow enough time. Big projects take time to finish. Help your child break big jobs down into smaller tasks.
- Make transitions easier. Some kids have trouble moving from one thing to another. Giver your child plenty of advance warning. "Remember, homework time starts in five minutes, so you need to finish your snack."

V.I.P. Volunteer Opportunity
Grayson Elementary School PTA is pleased to offer a new volunteer opportunity to all of our G.E.S. parents. The V.I.P. (Very Involved Parents) committee will assist all G.E.S. teachers with classroom tasks such as assembling books, preparing workbooks, cutting, bulletin board creation and die-cutting so that our teachers can focus on efficient and creative instructional time.
Committee volunteers will pick up work requests and materials from the V.I.P. mailbox, complete tasks in the designated V.I.P. workspace and return completed projects to the mailbox. Volunteers will agree on their own day, hours and schedule - a consistent weekly, bi-weekly or monthly time to provide a valuable service to our wonderful teachers.
If you are interested in joining the V.I.P.'s, please contact Lora Thompson lora_thompson@gwinnett.k12.ga.us or Christine Scartz tcscartz@comcast.net. Thank you in advance for all of your help!

Science Special
Dear Grayson Parents,
Hi! I am Mrs. Green. I teach the science special. The children and I
appreciate any individually wrapped candy, stickers, little toys, erasers,
pencils that you could send in. I am trying to keep a Treasure Box going.
If you want to stop in and help in the science room just send me an email traci_green@gwinnett.k12.ga.us and we'll set something up. I can always
use your help. You don't have to come when your child is having science.
During the holidays, I do ask families to take home live animals to "animal
sit". Let me know if you are interested in something like that. The
children have a great time in science. There were some gerbils up for
adoption, but they have all been "taken". I'll keep you posted. I have
kept the notes from families requesting gerbils.
Thank you,
Mrs. Green
